How cities are made, how they work (or don’t), and how we make them our own has always captivated and confounded me. And then came “HOW TO with John Wilson” which over 3 seasons effortlessly answered these questions and inspired so many more. I invited John Wilson and show editor/filmmaker LJ Frezza to join me at Pratt for a screening and Q&A to unpack some of our favorite episodes that explore NYC’s urban fabric and people. Capping the end to a wild run, we were so lucky to sit down with the minds behind the show to discuss everything from the leaps and bounds of cinema verite, to archaic city laws, and where can you actually find a bathroom in NYC? People around the world have been obsessed with this Emmy-nominated show—a testament to its underlying humanity—in all its strangeness and glory.
Episodes: HOW TO – Find a Public Restroom, Put Up Scaffolding, Find a Spot. Co-presented by student groups APP, PIPSA, and the the MS programs in Urban and Community Planning, and Urban Placemaking and Management.
