As part of the 2016 VIA Festival I curated the Pittsburgh premier of Brooklyn-based performance duo FlucT, who presented a group movement workshop in advance of their audio-visual performance AGAPE / CONTROL TOPS.
Description: Our mind and bodies re constantly absorbin he information of life, trauma, fe/croll nd this experience is not always willingly. When not actively processed, culture ppears in our physicality nd becomes an interruptive discomfor. Sissy Joker La Pieta is a class that navigates these processes through performance and dance using techniques derived from Butoh, Authentic Movement, Weigh-earing Acrobatics and he riginal Fluct techniques of Gaping-Gushing-Glitching. Aimed at creating a movement cycle that activates cerebral processing through h body with sounds created by Fluct.
Fluct is the collaborative work of Monica Mirabile and Sigrid Lauren addressing issues in the capital obedience of American culture through choreography and performance. FlucT creates original narrative soundscapes linking a manipulated pop music psychosis with violently intimate dance. FlucT has performed at the Queens Museum and MOMA Ps1, with solo exhibition at Platform Gallery. They produce their own large scale choreographed productions [Solar Solipsis,TransValue, ModelHome], collaborate with touring musicians including Pictureplane and MNDR, as well as run Otion Front Studio, a performance/dance space in Bushwick, NY. Fluct’s work has been reviewed by the New York Times, Vice’s Creators Project, Purple Magazine, among others.
